Jane Trahan's, Harvard Faculty Assistant, thoughts on Divestment
October 21, 2014
Divest Harvard is a movement that challenges the inconsistency between Harvard’s financial investments and its stated commitment to address climate change. As our faculty and researchers provide research and teaching on the extreme costs of inaction, the University continues to fund the extraction of fossil fuels. Although Harvard has been a national leader in institutional sustainability, as staff of Harvard University we find it contradictory and self-defeating that Harvard invests its endowment in companies that threatens its own future and the future of its students. We must align our endowment with our profound concern for humanity and our planet. Therefore, we support Divest Harvard in the pursuit of this goal.
