Fasting is a powerful act that Divest Harvard is employing in our campaign to motivate Harvard to divest from fossil fuels. We do not undertake this action lightly, nor should anyone who is participating at any level.
Safety is our first priority. Therefore, we do not endorse nor encourage anyone to fast for longer than three days. Every person’s body is different, and no one should feel pressured or unsafe in their decision to participate in our action. We encourage participants to seek out medical advice before beginning the fast and to check-in individually and with others during the fast.
As a group, we have also reached out to both Eating Concerns Hotline and Outreach (ECHO) and Harvard University Health Services (HUHS). We will meet with nurses from HUHS to ensure a safe and responsible fast. If you feel unsafe at any time, please reach out for help immediately. Contact information for ECHO and HUHS are below.
